Now Open: Totokaelo in NYC
By New York City standards, the new Totokaelo outpost in SoHo is massive—like, 8,500 square-feet spread out over five floors, massive—and meant to feel more like a home than a store. As evidenced by her consistently radical fashion buy (Margiela, Dries, Haider, Yohji for both men and women), founder Jill Wenger has marched to the beat of her own drum from the get-go, opting to open the first location back in 2003 in Seattle instead of the more likely LA and NYC. It definitely hasn’t inhibited her from amassing a global fan base, who turn to her from pretty awesome home goods along with finds like Vetements and Marni shoes. The online arm of the business and its artsy cousin Totokaelo Art are still going strong if an in-person visit isn’t an option.
