The tour season at Philip Johnson’s Glass House is now in full swing (it’s open for visitors from May through November)—and while we’ve never needed another reason to visit this Modernist residential masterpiece, we have one now. Legendary retailer Murray Moss—the force behind the now-shuttered, gallery-like Soho institution, Moss, which pioneered the concept of the modern home design store (and spawned a thousand imitations)—has taken on The Glass House’s retail shop.

Inspired by the tenets Johnson put forth in the Machine Art exhibition he curated at MoMA in 1934, everything in the Glass House Design Store adheres to the concept that there is beauty in functional, machine-made objects, too. So when you take home an Alvar Aalto vase, or a Werkstätte Carl Auböch wine stopper, you’re taking home a representation of Johnson’s ideas, which makes for some pretty sophisticated souvenir shopping.
