Make Ahead Soups

When soup cleansing officially became a thing last year, we were pretty hooked. Not only do soups contain way less sugar and more fiber than fresh-pressed juices, but they’re warming, satisfying, and easy to freeze—a huge selling point for those with busy schedules. This year, we asked two of our favorite LA-based soup companies, Soupelina and Soupure, to give us a couple of new detoxifying recipes for the winter season. All four soups come from their respective new cookbooks (Soupelina’s Soup Cleanse and The Soup Cleanse) and while some take a little while to cook, they’re all easy to make and perfect for the freezer.

  • Soupelina's

    Soupelina’s “I’m All Artichoke-d Up”

“This member of the thistle family is a powerful liver cleanser! It contains a number of phytonutrients (apigenin, cynarin, silymarin, and luteolin) that have diuretic properties, detoxify the liver, boost gall bladder function, and improve bile flow. Artichokes are even used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a remedy for water retention and liver ailments; they also aid digestion and help people who experience stomach acidity. Combined with garlic, thyme, and a blend of potent herbs and spices, this soup is one of the best cleansing potions you can have.”

  • Soupelina's

    Soupelina’s “Coconut Galangal Broth”

“This creamy broth packs a punch, and the first time I made it, I did a happy dance in my kitchen. It also felt like a happy dance in my mouth. The broth is admittedly special and highlights Thai flavors, without them overwhelming one another. The delicate aroma and flavor that comes from galangal in contrast to coconut milk and lime juice create an addictive but healthy concoction.”

  • Soupure's

    Soupure’s “Chicken Broth”

“Chicken bone broth is one of the oldest healing traditions in the world and is best known for its protection against colds and flus. Studies have also shown that it may reduce joint pain and inflammation while regenerating hair, skin, bones, and nails. It doesn’t get more soothing than this.”

  • Soupure's

Soupure’s “Red Lentil & Caramelized Onion Soup”

“High-fiber lentils promote heart health, lower cholesterol, provide vegetable protein, stabilize blood sugar, and are rich in iron and B vitamins. We love combining these earthy gems with the deep, roasty, slightly sweet flavor of caramelized onions. This soup will gently warm your stomach and keep you satisfied.”
