The Best Bikes For Summer

Long gone are the days of clunky cruisers and overly-teched out mountain bikes. A load of companies—new and old—are designing pretty gorgeous rides you’ll want to take everywhere. Bike lock required.

Based out of Venice, California, the emphasis here is on streamlined (read: stunning) commuter bikes, kitted out with leather seats and leather-wrapped handles. Their Lil Dutchi for kids is pretty much the cutest thing we’ve ever seen.

The Shinola story is enough to make even the most bike-adverse want to buy a bike: Based in Detroit, Shinola hand-assembles every bike, proving again and again that American manufacturing is still some of the world’s best. They also make old-school watches and beautifully simple leather goods.

Since 1926, this British company has been turning out some of the most iconic old-world bikes around: Like the types with gorgeous baskets attached to the front that are laden-down with fresh flowers and bread. You can still buy into the dream (or the very least, an accessory, as they sell those separately).

Scout Regalia

While Scout Regalia isn’t officially a bike company (they do really simple and stunning homewares), they’ve partnered with a bike maker in Philadelphia to turn out a pretty stunningly considered bike (we like the red and white colorway best). It’s super simple with just enough flourishes, like a worn-in leather seat, and a removable front rack.
