The Los Angeles Kids Guide

goop

Thanks to its impeccable weather, beach, hills, and everything in between, Los Angeles is a pretty top-notch playground. What makes it even better is that there are plenty of activities for kiddos that parents might enjoy, too.

Eggy

8365 W. 3rd St., West Hollywood | 323.658.8882

Inarguably one of the coolest selections of baby and kids clothing in Los Angeles, everything here is pretty much something we’d wear in adult sizes, from the Valentina silk dresses to the striped tank tops from Milk & Honey.

Burro Kids

1405 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice | 310.450.6283

Equal parts clothing boutique and toy store, this is the sort of place where you can pick up a gift for anyone under 10. It's very well-edited, meaning that there aren't a ton of options, but they're all good, from Aden & Anais swaddle blankets, to non-toxic crayons, to robot-printed pajamas.

Poppy Store

225 26th St., Brentwood | 310.260.4777

Situated in the Brentwood Country Mart, the racks at Poppy are exquisitely tasteful, from the mini striped shirts from Petit Bateau to the Makie t-shirts stamped with zebras. The pricetags match the taste level, which makes this better for gifts than wardrobe basics.

Un Deux Trois

11670 San Vicente Blvd., Brentwood | 310.820.7565

Kids love this boutique, in no small part because the shop's "personal stylists" pre-assemble entire looks—with the accessories to match. It's pretty much tween heaven, from the vegan leather leggings to the sequined tops.

Star Toys

130 S. Barrington Pl., Brentwood | 310.472.2422

This ages-old toy shop in Brentwood Village is literally packed to the gills with all the classics, from Lego, to Bruder trucks. It's family-owned, old-school, and they happily gift-wrap, making it the perfect stop before a birthday party. There are plenty of small grab and go toys, too, to keep little ones occupied.

Lost & Found

2000 Main St. & 2230 Main St., Santa Monica | 310.450.9782

Lost & Found in Hollywood occupies a stretch of adjacent buildings on Yucca Street, which is tucked away above Hollywood Boulevard. It’s there that you'll find one of L.A.'s best shopping destinations. While there are spaces for women and homes, we particularly love the kids edit, which revolves around feathered headbands, papier-mâché masks, and t-shirts emblazoned with everything from motorcycles to birds. The new outposts in Santa Monica are huge, offering more floor space to men's and women's clothing, along with even more delights for little ones. (Plus, a great edit of home.)

Acorn

1220 5th St., Santa Monica | 310.451.5845

Though its just two-blocks from the Third Street Promenade, which sucks up a lot of the area's oxygen, this is inarguably one of the most special toy shops in the country. Everything here is made of wood, from the pint-sized grocery store stands (complete with farmers market fruits and veggies) to the rainbow-hued teethers.

Quinnie & B

1632 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica | 310.398.8814

This brand-new, self-named "tiny toy shoppe" from the owners of nearby Thyme Café and Local Kitchen + Wine Bar is an undeniably adorable addition to Ocean Park. While it's not large, the selection is spot-on, with good birthday options for kids of all ages.

JennyBec’s

11710 San Vicente Blvd., Brentwood | 310.820.0500

Bruder trucks, stuffed animals, and a giant wall of books make this pretty popular with the under 12-set—and a host of retro toys like slinkies, et al, make parents even more inclined to bring out their wallets. These guys do quick and great gift-wrapping, making this a go-to for birthday party presents.

Flicka

204 N. Larchmont Blvd., Hancock Park | 323.466.5822

This place carries adorable clothes and whimsical accessories for both boys and girls from newborn to tween. Jelly sandals, tutus, and Petit Bateau staples mingle on the racks with plenty of European brands.

Sweet William

1406 Micheltorena St., Silver Lake | 323.741.8161

While its name might suggest that this shop traffics in frothy pastel pink and blue onesies, the colorful shelves suggest otherwise. Sweet William focuses on small, lesser known labels—Molo, Bobo Choses, boy + girl—that are, in their words, environmentally and ethically responsible. It’s all equal parts chic and adorable, from mohair cardigans and fox-emblazoned backpacks, to metallic lace-ups and psychedelic rabbit sweatshirts. In addition to clothing, they offer plenty of wooden toys from archival brands like Persephere & Trylon, as well as colorful Rouxrou blankets. There are two locations in New York City, one in Soho, and the second in Brooklyn.

Childrens’ Book World

10580 W. Pico Blvd., West LA | 310.559.2665

Boasting 80,000+ children's books, this is a local siren song for any kiddo who likes to read—from board books for the under 2 set, to more involved chapter books for pre-teens.

The Pink Chicken

1524 Montana Ave., Santa Monica | 310.395.6048

With stints at Ralph Lauren and babyGap at her back, it was arguably only time before Stacey Fraser started making little dresses for her kids. While the label launched in 2006, this is her first Los Angeles boutique—it's beachy feel is a perfect backdrop for the paisley printed dresses and subtly embroidered tops. Besides girls, there's also pieces for tweens (and grown-ups, too).

Yolk

1626 Silver Lake Blvd., Silver Lake | 323.660.4315

Whether you're in the market for kids furniture from Scandinavia, or a Pantone-themed mug, this long-standing boutique sources home goods and gifts for kids from all over the world.

Caro Bambino

2710 Main St., Santa Monica | 310.399.7971

This is one of those spots that will make you believe that having kids doesn't always require a cacophony of brightly-colored plastic toys: Airy, and sparely stocked, Caro Bambino offers everything you'd want for a clean-lined, modern nursery—and nothing more. There are well-designed cribs, a smattering of wooden toys, and neutral-hued onesies.

Kinokuniya

3760 S. Centinela Ave., Culver City | 310.482.3382

Based in Culver City's Japanese food market, Mitsuwa Market, the Japanese-based Kinokuniya offers great notebooks, stationery, pens, and gifts. Kids, in particular, go nuts here. There's also a location Downtown.

La La Ling

1810 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz | 323.664.4400

For the past eight years, Ling Chan has made this store a go-to for the coolest contemporary kids' fashion. But it doesn't stop at clothes. La La Ling also stock bedding, furnishings, hand-picked artwork for the nursery, and personalized gifts. With the help of their personal shopping service, they can help you put together a perfect baby shower gift.

Landis’ Labyrinth

140 N. Larchmont Blvd., Hancock Park | 323.465.7998

For over 20 years, this small, independent toy shop has been offering kids of all ages a variety of quality toys from lines like Playthings and Manhattan Toys—it's easy to tell from the store shelves that they know exactly what they're doing.
