Ask Jean: Do the Essential Oils in goop by Juice Beauty Cause Allergies?

We want to answer your most pressing questions—or, you know, just the things that you’re curious about. Please keep them coming to: feedback [at] goop [dot] com, or tweet us @goop. Below, a q for our beauty director, Jean Godfrey-June.

Dear Jean,
Do the essential oils in goop’s skincare line cause allergies? —B.

Dear B.,
Particular essential oils have to carry allergen warnings in the European Union—so goop avoided using any of those essential oils altogether. In addition, the essential oils we did use are in low concentrations, and every product passed third-party safety testing for contact irritation.

All of the products are gluten-free, too. That said, for every compound that exists on the earth, there’s probably a person who’s allergic to it, so if you’re prone to skin reactions, go slow (as you should with any other product you’re planning to put on your skin).
